Basketball showcase to honor memory of Club Blu victim

The memory of a rising basketball star, who was gunned down a year ago tomorrow in the Club Blu shootings, will be remembered on Wednesday evening during the inaugural Stef’An Strawder Memorial Showcase at Lehigh Senior High School.

Some of the top rated basketball players from throughout the state and beyond will be participating in the showcase, which will begin at 5 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium.  This will be a NCAA sanctioned event, with college coaches from D1 and D2 schools in attendance.  This event will be free and open to the public, with the focus spotlighting the talents of young athletes who have future aspirations in the sport, much like the event’s namesake.

“Stef’An Strawder was one of the greatest high school basketball players to come through Southwest Florida,” said Trish Routte, Crime Stoppers Coordinator.  “He worked hard at his game and his laser focus was evident every time he hit the court.  Stef’An was an inspiration to local players, and through this event, his memory and spirit will live on.”

Wednesday evening’s memorial showcase is being presented by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, with the support of Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers.
