Search still on for armed convenience store robber
Just over two months after an unknown man robbed a North Fort Myers convenience store at gunpoint, then motioned his weapon towards a responding Lee County deputy, Crime Stoppers is still asking for the public’s help putting a name to the offenders face.
The robbery occurred in the early morning hours of Thursday, December 8, 2016, when the unknown suspect entered the 7-Eleven store, located at 15991 N. Cleveland Avenue. The man covered his face with a hoodie with one hand and brandished a handgun in the other, demanding that the clerk hand over all the money in the register. When the clerk complied, the man left the store on foot, and started to head southbound when a Lee County Sheriff’s deputy confronted him. The suspect immediately pointed his gun at the deputy, prompting the deputy to fire one round in the suspect’s direction. The unknown man immediately fled the area and to this day, he remains at large and unidentified.
“This was not only a very bold crime to begin with, but the suspect clearly had no problem aiming his gun at a uniformed deputy,” said Trish Routte, Crime Stoppers Coordinator. “That action in itself is indicative of a criminal who knows no boundaries. Even though a few months have passed, we are hopeful that someone will either recognize him or will feel comfortable providing information, on an anonymous basis, so that no other businesses or individuals become his next target.”
The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 300 pounds and 5’9” tall. He should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on the identity and whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000. Tips may also be made online at www.southwestfloridacrimestoppers.com or by submitting a tip on the P3Tips app.
