Would be thief walks away with nothing, but still faces jail time

Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help identifying an unknown suspect who expended several futile attempts to break into a fleet of trailers owned by a Lee County business last week.

In the early morning hours of Friday, April 7, the unknown suspect was seen walking around the gated grounds of Frank’s Roofing, located at 13828 Palm Beach Boulevard.  Surveillance video first captured images of him walking around the property just after 1 a.m.  Over the course of nearly an hour, the man tried to break into multiple trailers, tampering with several locks, to no avail.  Despite the fact that the suspect was unsuccessful at each of his attempts, he will still be charged with attempted burglary upon his identification and arrest.

He is described as a white or Hispanic male in his early 20s, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black gloves, red pants and black Nike shoes.  His face was covered part of the time with a white t-shirt, however he removed it at one point while in close proximity of a surveillance camera.

Anyone with information on the identity and whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).  All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.  Tips may also be made online at www.southwestfloridacrimestoppers.com or by submitting a tip on the P3Tips mobile app.

Note:  We do not have any still photographs of the suspect, however there is a two minute video of various clips of the suspect moving around the business, including the portion where he removes the white t-shirt from his face.  The video is too large to email, however copies of the disk are available in the Crime Stoppers office today until 3 p.m.  If you would like a copy, please call 239-477-1031 to arrange for pick up.
