Within the last hour, the two men accused of stealing three flat screen TV’s from Wal Mart have been identified and taken into custody.
As a result of several anonymous tips, Timothy Retherford (DOB 8/29/84) and Douglas Jones (DOB 7/29/88) were identified as the men profiled in surveillance photos released earlier this week. Arrest warrants were issued this morning, and by late afternoon, deputies found the two in Lehigh Acres and charged each with grand theft and resisting arrest. Jones was additionally charged with the possession of drug equipment. The female suspect in this case has also been identified, but is not facing charges in relation to this incident at this time.
This afternoon’s arrest mark’s Retherford’s 23rd booking in the Lee County Jail. As a repeat offender, Retherford has been previously incarcerated for drug trafficking, burglary, dealing in stolen property, contempt, battery, grand theft and fraud. Jones has been arrested six times, on other charges including drug possession, battery and criminal mischief.
July 19, 2017 Thieving trio takes off with stolen TV’s
Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help identifying three persons of interest in the theft of three TV’s from a South Fort Myers Wal Mart store last weekend.
Just before 3 a.m. on Sunday, July 16, the suspects entered the Wal Mart, located at 14821 Six Mile Cypress Parkway, and headed to the electronics section. Two 55” Samsung television sets, and one 32” Element TV was loaded into a cart by two men and a female. As the men approached the front of the store, they began to walk quickly past the cash registers. A store employee saw the theft in progress and attempted to grab the shopping cart from the men, however they were able to successfully get away. The television sets were loaded into a red van, possibly a Volkswagon, and the suspects left in an unknown direction.
Anyone with information on the identities and whereabouts of the three suspects is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
